Battle Tales warriors! Prepare yourselves, because TONIGHT…THE BATTLE BEGINS!
During this time of year - which everyone else calls spring but many Islanders call “mud season” - we invite you to exchange your rubber boots for your writing pens (or keyboards).
You have ONE WEEK to get your creative juices flowing with these THREE prompts:
1. A mishmash of colours
2. The scent of tea
3. The call of an eagle
Is it a dance of the senses or rather a battle?! We don’t know yet - your call...
What we do know is that you MUST do the following, dear writer:
Write a story of 2,500 words or less.
Your story MUST include the mandatory three prompts mentioned above.
Email your story to battletales@peiwritersguild.com as a PDF file.
Include your name and contact info in your email, BUT DO NOT include it anywhere in your story entry (judging is blind!)
Participants MUST be a resident of Prince Edward Island to enter.
Stories must be submitted by 8:00pm on Thursday, May 2nd to be accepted.
All stories will be judged and our finalists chosen solely by our 2024 GUEST JUDGE, author Nicholas Herring.
So let’s see what grows within your mind and imagination in this season of renewal. Which way will your creative energy be taking you?

ADDED SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
Each year we’re incredibly proud of each and every writer who submits to this contest and helps make it the truly special event that it is, and we want to celebrate each and every one of you…in person!
New this year we’ll be hosting a Battle Tales FINALE on Thursday, June 20th @ 7pm LIVE at The Gallery Coffee House & Bistro!
This will be a celebration of the contest, the guest judge, the stories written, the finalists and the winner! A time to socialize with other writers, and to invite your friends and family out for an evening of celebrating PEI writing.
Our guest judge will select three Battle Tales finalists and we’ll be inviting them to read excerpts from their submissions as part of the finale and closing celebration.
After the readings, PEIWG’s Executive Director will be reading our 2024 Guest Judge’s glowing comments about each finalists’ piece.
We’ll then announce our 2024 winner and present them with a special Battle Tales NINE prize that’s been carefully curated by the PEI Writers’ Guild and our finale host and event sponsor, The Gallery Coffee House & Bistro!
