PEI Writers’ Guild Wins PEI Arts Award

The PEI Writers’ Guild, along with PEERS Alliance, was thrilled win a PEI Arts Award for The Premier’s Award for Stand-out Project of the Year, an award that celebrates an innovative artistic or cultural project in the areas of reconciliation, climate change, accessibility, or digital innovation by an Island artist, arts professional, group, collective or organization.

The Stand-out Project of the Year is Are We Friends Now?, an anthology written by queer PEI youth. This project was a joint effort between the PEI Writers’ Guild and PEERS Alliance, and was an absolute joy from start to finish.

In 2022, the PEI Writers’ Guild and PEERS Alliance came together to develop the Queer Youth Group Writing Club for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies aged 12 to 18. The goal was to create a safe space for queer youth to meet several times a month, enabling them to express themselves through writing and work together to create a collaborative book that would be professionally published, distributed, and sold. You can learn more about this incredible project and its funder, the PEI Alliance for Mental Well-Being, here!

You can purchase the book at Bookmark Charlottetown!
